Healthy Kids and the Keys to Good Health - Summer& March Break Day Camp for children ages 7 to 11. The goal of this program is to empower children to make good decisions related to eating and physical activity! The program is run in partnership with the Sarnia lakeshore optimist Club in Sarnia and the Optimist Club of Moore in Corunna. A Registered Dietitian will be running the program along with volunteer support to supervise and support the children. There will be three components to the program:
- Healthy Kids and the Keys to Good Health interactive small-group discovery-learning activities
- Preparing and enjoying a “strong” snack
- Get moving and keep moving activity break
Component One: Healthy Kids and the Keys to Good Health Interactive Activities
Using numerous interactive activities and fun goal-setting exercises, children find the keys to good health! The goal from this component of the program is to empower children to make healthy choices related to their eating and physical activity habits.
Component Two: Preparing and Offering a Strong Snack
Children will be given the opportunity to prepare and enjoy a “strong” snack - a snack that is nutritious and balanced. We hope from this component of the program that children will explore and develop an appreciation for new nutritious foods and develop skills on how to plan for, shop for and prepare nutritious snacks at home. Children will also be taught the importance of food and kitchen safety.
Component Three: Get Moving and Keep Moving Activity Break
Using fun tools and games, children will be encouraged to be active during the break between the interactive activities and food preparation component. The goal of this component of the program is to teach new and fun ways to get active daily.
